Though less extreme than a C1D1 environment, C1D2 areas still require detailed attention to safety. In C1D2 locations, flammable gases and liquids can pose a grave risk if they escape their containment systems.

Safe equipment and processes are of paramount value in extreme Class 1 Division 1 areas. Where ignitable concentrations of flammable dust, vapors, or gases are present, a hazardous area HMI such as our purge-protected ToughStation workstation is necessary. These dangerous environments' regulations and standards require devices such as computers and monitors to have purge systems and pressurization to prevent the risk of an explosion.
With specifications engineered for the highest level of protection, our purge-protected large-format ToughStation is built to meet requirements specific to C1D1, C2D1, and C2D2 environments. The unit itself is nonincendiary and its fully sealed stainless-steel enclosure offers NEMA 4 and NEMA 4X ingress protection.
Our ToughStation C1D1, C2D1, C2D2, and C1D2 units have customization options to offer practical solutions in extreme temperatures, whether in high heat or freezing conditions. Extreme temperature packages can allow our products to function in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 70°C.
In addition to computers and monitors, our units have optional rugged keyboards that are fully sealed and ready for hazardous areas.
Our hazardous area computers and monitors offer two types of touch technology: standard resistive touch and PCAP (projected capacitive) touch. Based on your application's needs, you can configure the ability to operate our human-machine interfaces while wearing protective gloves.
Our hazardous area workstations offer a Type-X purge system for C1D1 and C2D1 areas and Type-Z purge system for C2D2 areas. They are used for operating and monitoring machinery and processes in the harsh environments of oil and gas production, petrochemical manufacturing, and life sciences.

Available with or without touchscreens, they can function as human-machine interfaces or remote terminals. The available display sizes for the purge-protected ToughStation workstations, computers, and monitors are 32" and 43".
